Well, so long October, what a wonderful month you have been!  My best friends wedding, Hallow-scream, Chris' new truck, exciting pregnancy news for great friends & an all night Halloween dance party are just a few highlights from this fantastic month!

I hope you have a spooktacular Halloween, whatever you are!!!

Chris & I are going to light the jack o lanterns, hand out candy to neighborhood trick or treaters, and enjoy a Hot Toddie or 2!

Pumpkin Season

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Keeping true to the season, we have been filling our home & bellies with all things Pumpkin!  Pumpkin muffins, pumpkin spice candles, pumpkin beer, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin butter, pumpkin spice coffee creamer, pumpkin decorations!  All would not be complete without a little bit of pumpkin carving!

David brought over 3 humongous monster pumpkins! Seriously, they were super heavy! The picture doesn't do them justice! We couldn't wait to stick our knives in them! ( A little gory? well what do you expect, Halloween is on its way!)

Trying to decide what kind of faces to draw...

I was very excited to say this was my first solo pumpkin carving experience. I was a proud little lady!

Pumpkin guts

We lit candles &  it was cool enough to build a fire in the fire pit.  So duhhh, we had to make smore's!

Delicious!

Ta Da! Don't our pumpkins look great on the front porch?  Top left is mine, top right is David's & Chris' is bottom right.  Such a fabulous evening with two of my favorite boys.

Tis the season for all things Pumpkin! Don't you just love Fall!?

A Day at the Fair

Monday, October 24, 2011

Every year when Fall rolls around, one of the things I look forward to most is the North Carolina State Fair! Truly a wonderful experience, from hot apple cider, art exhibits, and record pumpkins, to fried cheesecake, baby pigs , & the demolition derby. Nothing quite compares to a day at the NC State fair!

Unfortunately, this year we were not able to make it to the State Fair.  The first year since I was 16 that I missed the fair, but the great thing about it, you know it will be there next year!

So here is how we spent our day at the fair last year! Happy reminiscing!

Fall soups

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Lately, I have been on a soup kick!  Nothing like a  bowl of deliciousness to warm you up on these crisp Fall evenings.  I made a creamy tomato basil soup the other night,  it was truly scrumptious and definitely a recipe I will use over & over again.

I found the recipe here, but did a few changes of my own. Here is what I did:

Add two 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes & one 14 oz can chicken broth in a large sauce pan, bring to a boil then reduce heat, cover & simmer for 10 minutes.  Add a dash of sugar, salt & pepper to taste, and fresh basil, minced. Then stir in 1 cup heavy cream & 6 tablespoons of butter. Mix until creamy & butter is melted.
Enjoy!

A fresh salad &  grilled cheese made our dinner complete!  And with soup magic, it got better & better each day. Yum!

What are some of your favorite soup recipes??

To Market To Market

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Have you ever been to The Fresh Market?  It is one of my favorite places to go even if I am just browsing.  You walk in smelling a mixture of fresh flowers and  hot brewed coffee, while an entire world of organic, fresh foods await!!

The produce is extremely fresh, looking like it was just picked off the farm.  And the meat counter is filled with the prettiest beef, poultry, pork, & seafood; simply mouthwatering!

They have an olive bar, a coffee grinding station, a beautifully stocked deli, a "make your own peanut butter" station, a vast array of different cheeses,  tables upon tables of freshly baked breads, muffins, & pastries, and my hunny's favorite, a sushi bar!

A wide variety of mixed nuts, dried fruits, and trail mixes.  A healthy girls dream!

But then I tend to wander more towards the dessert counter and drool over the old fashioned candy!  They know my weak spot!

Every so often they have wine tastings, I feel so sophisticated sampling different reds & whites from around the world!

During holiday's they definitely go all out!  I found Vampire Wine, anything & everything pumpkin, and a huge display of Halloween candy.  So festive!

Chris & I go every once and a while, shopping there mostly on special occasions.  But I sometimes go just for the free coffee & samples.  And I'm sure shoppers thought "the girl taking pictures with her iphone" was completely nuts! :)

I hope this post leaves your mouth watering and senses awakened; so go ahead and find your local Fresh Market and have your own fabulously Fresh experience!

DIY Inspired

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I found this awesome idea while gazing through Pinterest the other day.  DIY dry erase board; perfect for keeping your scattered hubby organized & informed :)  Or to jot down dinner ideas, to do's, and your grocery list. All you need is an old frame, pretty scrapbook paper & a dry erase pen.

These are mine that I made, what do you think?  One in my kitchen and another in my entry way.  My hunny even liked them! His own words, "Wow! crafty & cheap!"

Direction

Some days are harder than others & there are times in life where you are unsure of what path you should take and where it may lead.....

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
  Proverbs 3: 5-6

Especially during this time in my life, I am incredibly blessed to have my family, friends, & amazing husband to comfort & encourage me. I am asking the Lord for guidance, patience, & peace while I search to find the path He has laid out for me....
