Turkey Talk

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

The Thanksgiving Holiday is only two short days away!  Are you preparing your family's feast?  Is this your first turkey-cooking experience?  Well I must admit, happily, I won't have to prepare my family's Thanksgiving meal.  Our tradition is to have one person cook the bird, and others to bring the bounty of sides.  Grandpa has taken on the challenge this year, he is a seasoned turkey cooker, so I have no doubt it will be delicious!   My sister always makes the best green bean casserole & I have taken charge of the sweet potato casserole!  I love it!  Almost dessert like, and made with pecans, not marshmallows.

Mom makes the other sides:  mashed potatoes, dressing, corn succotash, croissants, cranberry sauce,  and a family tradition, green jello salad. I'm not even sure if this is the correct recipe, it was passed down from my grandmother to my mom, and one day I will make it for my family.

Now all this turkey talk is making my mouth water!  I sure am ready for some delicious food & fun with my wonderful family.

But if you are taking on the challenge of roasting your first bird, remember you can always call the Butterball hot-line : 1-800-BUTTERBALL, with all your turkey questions!  And the November issue of Food Network Magazine has over 50 pie recipes, Mix & Match Stuffing, Turkey, & Mashed Potato recipes!

Good Luck & Enjoy!
