Sometimes all you need is a good laugh....here are a few pins that made me giggle....

Anybody else having a bad case of the Monday's?  Ugh.
These silly pictures put a smile on my face, and I hope they do the same for you!

Hypocrite

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Greetings my little sunshines & happy Thursday!  Speaking of sun, it is shinning brightly here in VB and according to Le iPhone the high for the day will be in the low 60's!  Yes, it is still January, but I am starting to come to terms with this mild winter, which in turns leaves me longing for Spring & Summer.  Blooming flowers, patio reading, outdoor concerts, tropical smoothies, lazy beach days, tanning oil sunscreen, & of course bikini's....

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know I posted this pic a few weeks ago & was simply disgusted that Target already had bathing suits for sale in January.   Well, I'm a hypocrite; because yes I was shocked to see them  hanging up in all their neon, zebra, & paisley glory, but during my last visit to the mall I stopped by Victoria  Secret, and what do you know....they had bikinis!  So, I convinced myself trying one on would be gym motivation & that these little babies would fly off the shelves come spring so I better just get my butt in the dressing room and try it on already....

And what do you know....I found the perfect suit for the summer!
The best part, well other than the under $60 price tag, it looked rather fabulous on, even in January!  Yes, the picture is motivation enough, but how often do you try on a bathing suit and feel great, and 3 months before it is even appropriate to put one on! (Not trying to brag, I in no way look like this model, {who does?} or even how I did in college, but a girls got to give herself props sometimes...)

So in a month or two this cute little bikini will be in my "shopping cart" maybe along with little number too...

In my basket

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

You all know that I simply loveeee the Fresh Market.   I made a trip there this week; had a leisurely stroll, enjoyed some free coffee, & picked up a few essentials....
My purchases included: a fabulous bottle of  Francis Coppola's Cabernet Sauvignon, TFM organic marinara sauce (for tonight's dinner), Republic of Tea: blueberry green tea, Charleston Favorites stone ground grits*,  TFM chocolate chunk cookies, & a Figi water (obviously to wash down that cookie I devoured right as I got in the car, seriously who can wait till they get home?!)

Ok, well maybe essentials is a bit of a stretch....But TFM has the most delicious cookies, and a such a wide variety of tea's; and most importantly this is the only place where I can find stone ground grits!

Valentine's Day is the next holiday on the agenda so the store was decked out with chocolates, candy hearts, & flowers galore.
Once again, I was the nut taking pictures while the rest of the "normal" customers shopped, but that's ok, I had a wonderful time.  The Fresh Market is always such a pleasant & enjoyable shopping experience. (And no, I am not paid to endorse their store, I just truly love TFM.)

*Seriously, these grits are to die for.  They are the real deal, you have to wash, drain & add fresh water before cooking & it will take a while for them to cook.  But they are the best. grits. ever.  Chris & I have become grit snobs since eating these, no more of that instant mess.

Weekend Recap

Monday, January 23, 2012

I hope you all had a perfectly relaxing weekend.  We sure did!  Honestly, we didn't do a whole lot,  but sometimes not doing much of anything, can be even greater than doing a lot of somethings.  But we did manage to get a second coat of paint up in our media room* & have a little Birthday celebration for our Lucy girl;  but other than that, we did a whole lot of eating, drinking, movie watching, and lounging on the couch.

Saturday night's dinner was a tray of cheese, crackers, meats, olives, & pickles; accompanied by a nice cold glass of beer*. Sunday morning I made a big breakfast to power us through our painting :pancakes, bacon,  eggs over easy, & some delicious bloody marry's. We spent the rest of the afternoon covering ourselves & the walls in paint.  What do you think of the color?!  Sunday night we had beef stew while watching the NFL playoffs (was anybody else as dissapointed about the outcome, as I was?)

Anywho, truly a wonderful weekend! But please don't think of us as lazy, gluttonous, drinkers....even though that is pretty much what our weekend consisted of!

*It will be our media room, right now it is filled with paint, bikes, & kite boarding equipment.
**I'm still a classy Southern lady, but I do like a nice cold beer every once in a while...

Just Run

Friday, January 20, 2012

One of my goals for 2012 is to run my first race.  I was so incredibly inspired last year watching our friend David, run his first marathon.  It was such a thrill to see him cross the finish line.  Running in a race is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and there is no time like the present!  So as of today I am all signed up to run in the Yuengling Shamrock 8k!  I am excited, but a little nervous because I have been a little* lackadaisical with my training.  But I figured signing up would make me get my butt in gear!

Anywho, no big plans for us this weekend.  Hopefully we can finish painting our media room, watch a few movies, and make some beef stew.  My four legged daughter has a birthday on Saturday, so of course we will have a little doggy celebration.  A cupcake for her and wine for us! Cheers!

Oh, and I guess I will be doing a little bit of running too!

Happy Friday my dears, & enjoy the weekend!

*as in, I haven't ran since early December. Training fail.

Here are a few things that brought a smile to my face this week....

... Receiving a sweet phone call from my Grandpa, who just wanted to tell me "he loved me & was thinking about me"
...Delicious strawberries. In January.
...A surprise lunch date with the hubby, to our favorite place, Chipotle
...Hearing the exciting news from our best friends, about what kind of baby they are having.  (I guessed it right!!)
...Almond Joy coffee creamer, which brings a little bit more joy to my morning brew
...Trying a new recipe for dinner, and receiving yummy sounds of praise from the man who I truly cook for
...Watching a redheaded woodpecker hop from branch to branch on our big oak tree  for over ten minutes
...Finding new jeans, which were desperately needed, splurging & buying 2 pair, aaand they make my bum look fabulous!

And its only Thursday! Enjoy the rest of your day, and remember to smile!

Bookworm

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

What kind of reader are you?  The type that occasionally reads a novel on their ipad at the gym?  The kind that will pick up a book but rarely ever finish it? or you just aren't much of the reading type (& no magazines don't count).  Over the past couple of years I have become more & more of  reader, and I finally know what "kind" I am.
I am that girl who cannot & will not put a book down until it is finished.  Letting reality (and housework) slip away, as I dive head first into a new world created by the author. I am also the type of reader who once discovers a new author, goes on a reading rampage  consuming any and every novel that author has written.  For example, this past summer I fell in love with Elin Hilderbrand, and her Nantucket based novels and read 6 of her books in a matter of 2 months.  I have done the same thing(only a little less extreme) with The Twilight series, Harry Potter books, The Mitford Series, Nicholas Sparks novels, and the Sookie Stackhouse series, by Charlaine Harris. Which by the way, her next novel comes out this May. So Excited!!

And here I am doing it again with Emily Griffin novels; I just finished Something Borrowed, and am now onto Something Blue.  I have been curious about these books for a while, so after a bit of a reading sabbatical, I picked one up on my latest trip to Target, and what do you know, I can't put them down.
So yes, in the Summer you can find me lounging in the sun or in Winter snuggled up by the fire, but always with a good book!

And if you are the ones who don't fancy a good read, I'm sorry for the lengthy post.   Anyways, Happy Wednesday my little bookworms!

Dog days

Monday, January 16, 2012

Here's a fun fact: adult dogs spend half of their lifetime sleeping.

Proof.
Lucy knows how to get the job done.

Also, you've heard the phrase, "let sleeping dogs lie"?  Well, turns out that it is best not to wake those cute pups up when they are snoozing.  They actually need all that sleep.

But please don't think I'm a bad mom.  We run around and play in the backyard every day.  You can normally find her snoofing around the herb garden or amongst the monkey grass, & lately she has been favoring her deflated basketball to chew on.
 It's a dogs life.

Mountain Vacation

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Last February, right before* we made our big move to Virginia, Chris took me on a surprise Valentine's Day weekend trip.  We stayed in a cabin close to Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge mountains. The cabin was located in a very seclude & remote place, and by remote I mean, a non state maintained road, that prohibited regular cars and advised you to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to master the terrain.  Just getting up the mountain was an adventure.
But we had a fabulous time lounging by the fireplace, relaxing in the hot tub, hiking to see waterfalls, and eating way too much comfort food.
Don't you just love the "No Rock Climbing allowed" sign, with people climbing all up and down the rocks. Classic.  And yes, that is my husband sitting right next to the waterfall, talk about an adrenaline junkie.  Sometimes I think his sole purpose in life is to scare the ever living crap out of me.

But I was so proud of my Lucy girl, she hiked all day with us; rock climbing, river jumping, & waterfall exploring.  Seriously, look at her legs, she had to be tired.

Unfortunately the Blue Ridge Parkway, which I have never been on, was closed due to icy conditions.  But that just means Chris has to take me back some day!  So with the cooler temperatures, snow in most places other than VB,  and just the general desire to travel & explore I am desperaltly hoping my hunny has something up his sleeve for this Valenties Day.  A new tradition maybe?  Well a girl can dream right?!

*like the weekend before we moved. Yes, we are crazy!

Sick Day

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Happy Wednesday my sweets, it is a dreary day here in Virginia Beach, and I am laid up on the couch with a sore throat, fever, & body aches.  Yuck.  Strangely I went to bed fine, but woke up with said symptoms, talk about a morning surprise.  At least its cold & rainy, there's nothing quite like snuggling up & not doing a whole lot on a day like today, I just with I felt better.

At least I have my sweet Lucy girl with me to keep me company. She is the perfect medicine to make this sick day a little brighter.
So hopefully my day on the couch with my current read, hot tea, & a Top Chef marathon will have me feeling back to normal tomorrow.

Tattoo

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Do you have a tattoo? I don't, and I never thought I would, but for some unknown reason, I can't stop thinking about getting one.  Except for a select few, including my husband, almost all my friends have at least one.  In the past I thought I wasn't the kind of girl who would permanently ink my body (or have the guts to do so) but it seems the negative stereotypes that surround tattoo's are slowly fading away.  Although, I know a few people who would not approve....mom,dad,grandpa.....But hey, you only live once right!?!
I'm not a very spontaneous or crazy person, but I may just do it.
And I'm pretty sure I know what I would get and where I would put it....

Questions. Comments. Concerns.
Tell me what you think!

100

Monday, January 9, 2012

Today is...drum roll please...dda da da daaa.....my 100th Blog Post!!  And as you can tell I am pretty excited about it.  Eight months ago I started this little blog, not knowing where it would take me or how much fun I would have exploring my creative side. Not only have I reconnect with old friends & made new ones, but blogging has introduced me to an entire new world of social media....Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, and beyond...When I was a little girl, I always said, "I want to be a writer when I grow up"  and hopefully this blog is my first step in that direction, although the "grown up" part is still up for discussion.

So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for accompanying me on my blogger journey & here's to the next 100!!

Tweet Tweet

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Are you on Twitter?  I am, and I love it!  Honestly, at first I thought it was just another piece of useless social media. Seriously, what is it with all these hash-tags?!? ###   But then I started seeing it everywhere...Television shows, celebrities, friends, family & even fellow blogger friends were twitting.  So over the Holidays my baby brother; who is not a baby, he's 16 & the coolest teenager I know (#swag), convinced me I needed a Twitter.  Of course he was right.  I love it!   And I don't know about you, but Facebook is getting to be a little boring lately, so this Twitter thing is definitely a welcomed change.  So if you're on Twitter follow me and I would love to follow you back!  Go on, I know you want to!!

Anywho, sorry for the break in blogging this week, motivation & time slipped right through my little fingers...But I will be back in full swing next week.  My next post will be a pretty big milestone for me, so stay tuned!

Happy Saturday & enjoy the weekend lovers!
