spirit of summer

Friday, June 29, 2012

Good morning my sweets! and happy Friday.  Big plans for the weekend?  Not for us, in the spirit of summer and adventure, we are letting the weekend take us where it wants, and we'll just see where we end up.  Afterall, this unplanned weekend thing is pretty great.

On another note, is anybody else a little confused/annoyed/dismayed about the 4th of July falling rightsmackdab in the middle of the week!?!  When do we celebrate?  This weekend? Next?  So after hours of contemplating this dilemma, {overly dramatic, I know} my conclusion is to celebrate both weekends &&& on Wednesday.  So, when you see me in my stars and stripes bikini this weekend & next, with a handful of sparklers in one hand and a hotdog in the other, you will know why!  Man, I sure do love this holiday!

But as for today, all I know is I cannot wait to get my tush to the movie theater{along with every other female in the world} tonight for Magic Mike!  Its pretty sad that I haven't looked forward to a movie this much in a long long long time.  ohhhh, I'm excited!  And actually, I looked  it up on rotten tomatoes{the best/most legit movie critic site} and it got really good reviews!! 82%   All the movie critics must be women, but that's neither here nor there....

So my dears, lets make today a great one! and stay cool, its pretty darn hot outside.
Enjoy the weekend and celebrate something!

notice a few changes around here?
I'm kinda liking changing up my pictures to coincide with the seasons.
Seasons are a big part of our life, and well, that is kinda what this little blog is all about...

the colors of summer

Thursday, June 28, 2012

there is something so colorful about summer.  so bright, vivid & fresh.
from the blue ocean waves, to a bowl of patriotic berries, ripe tomatoes, and inviting porch cushions;
I feel summer on my skin and see it all around me.
oh, how I love living at the beach.

unplanned weekends

Monday, June 25, 2012

Today during our morning routine, in the midst of coffee making and letting Lucy out, Chris said to me,

"It felt like such a long weekend! It was great."

That guy, he makes me smile.  And even though it was the normal 2 day weekend, it did feel long, wonderfully long. And as we recalled all that we did,  it made me realize, we sure do pack it in there!  We try and take every moment and fill it with something; making great memories while enjoying our simple little life and living it to the fullest....

Thunderstorm napping, pizza & movie watching on a Friday night, lazy Saturday morning,
lunch and showing off our city to Chris' parents who came for a visit,
an "interesting" airplane museum venture, the perfect evening for grilling,
big Sunday morning breakfast,
more laziness on Sunday morning "that lasted all afternoon",
visiting friends & lots of baby holding,
and a relaxing Sunday evening of leftovers & lots of TV watching

I find it funny that I truly love & enjoy the "unplanned" weekends the most....

How was your weekend?
And who's ready for the next?!?

coffee inspired writing

Thursday, June 21, 2012

*Disclaimer
this post is fueled by a grande Starbucks hazelnut latte,
please keep that in mind as you read my peppy, neurotic, silly-happy, & semi manic post......

Morning kittens!!  as per yesterday's post, I want to make a slight correction, indeed last night was the Summer solstice, but today is actually the longest day of the year!  And so my friends, lets take our 15 hours of sunlight and enjoy it to the fullest!{even if it is hotter than the Sahara outside}  That is certainly what I plan to do today.....

But for now, I want to share with you a few reasons why my heart is just so darn happy this morning
{probably mostly because of  my morning brew, which is neither here nor there....}

I consumed a delicious & much needed cup of coffee in record time this morning.  You see, our coffee maker bit the dust last week, and so I have gone five days, I repeat! five whole days without my morning brew.  Insanity is right.   So I got my cute little tush to my favorite store {target} this morning and bought myself a brand new coffee maker!....among other things...."I only bought one thing at Target"....no one ever said....
Oh coffee, I love you.  You bet I am brewing a pot right now, who cares that it is 104 degrees outside, or that it is 12 o'clock in the afternoon, and I'm the only one home.....who cares, is right.

Other things making me silly happy right now....

.....having a great conversation with my baby brother.  I mean what 17 year old boy will gladly talk to you on the phone for over 20 minutes.  And man, he is growing up.  Even though there are seven years between us, he is honestly one of my best friends.  He makes me so happy & so proud.   I really do love that kid....

.....having a tiny baby boy fall fast asleep in my arms, Oh sweet goodness......

.....real life vegetables growing in our back yard!!!! &&& eating them on our salad.....

.....beautiful flowers and blooms still popping up all over the place in the backyard, and in turn making beautiful arrangements for vases inside.....

.....blossoming friendships.....

.....having absolutely the cutest & snugly dog in the world and a pretty great husband to go alongside it....

.....reading wonderfully written books that leave you feeling inspired and hopeful
and most importantly

.....a life that I thought would never really fall into place.....is finally starting to take shape.....

.....learning that big dreams are not impossible, and learning to not let our own thoughts of how our Future is "supposed" to look keep us from seeing the big picture.  The biggest truth is that dreams aren't impossible, and the only person to hold you back from them is yourself....

coffee inspired writing at its finest
Enjoy the longest day of the year!!

summer solstice

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

hello loves!  Did you know today is the first official day of Summer!  The Summer Solstice is tonight, making this day the longest one of the year. {I'm such a little weather nerd...}

Ironically this first day of summer brought with it the sickening humid & hot weather.   Over the past few weeks the temperatures here in Virginia Beach have been hovering around the mid 70's!  We were letting the cool breezes blow through the windows, while leaving the A/C off, and even the other eveningI sat outside accompanied by Lucy and a few hundred lightning bugs, reading a book, wrapped in a blanket and honestly, it was down right chilly!  But not today. Today is one of those summer days where you step outside and are immediately hit with a blast of hot, humid air that seems to swallow you whole.  When being outside for more than a few minutes, unless directly near a body of water, makes you feel as though you just might melt.  Heck! Lucy won't even go outside for more than a minute, and my girl loves being outside.

I'm not complaining though, I love summer.

So heres to:

.....cold drinks topped with lemon & limes....
......grilling anything on our trusty Weber....
.....sunbathing, bikinis, and tan lines....
......shorts, sandals, and sundresses.....
.....walks on the beach......
....catching fire flies & roasting marshmallows....
.....bike rides, ice cream cones, and fireworks....
....days at the beach & nights with friends.....
and so{so} much more....

Hello, Summer!  I missed you.

Instagram, I love you.

Thank you for making me look like an "awesome photographer"* when really I'm not...
And for making my silly random weekend, look a little less so...

Thank you for being there for me, when I'm just too darn lazy to pick up my camera
And for inspiring me to take pictures from a low angle, of doors, drinks, and dinner....

Thank you for helping me document every moment of my dogs life: laying in the grass, on the couch, by door
And for making my life seem wayyyy cooler than it really is....

Thank you for allowing me to share pictures of my life with friends and family who are far away
And for making special & exciting moments, that much sweeter...

from this weekend....

And a few from last...

And a few from life lately, just because....

And a few from those special and oh so awesome moments.....
Our friends sweet baby boy was born last Thursday{6.7.2012}.  Just holding that little guy my heart swell with pure love and joy; and there is nothing, I mean nothing in this world, more wonderful than watching the man you love, smile so{so} big while holding his godson. {Chris, it made me love you even more.} Congrats again to the new parents!  Quite an exciting journey you have ahead, thank you for allowing us to be apart of the ride!

Let's make this week a good one, shall we?!?
happy monday

three years ago today....

Three years ago today I....

 wore a beautiful white gown
cried tears of happiness and joy
was followed around by photographers
was primped and beautified by my wonderful bridesmaids and sweet girlfriends
walked down the isle and married my best friend
posed on the beach
out ran the rain in my wedding dress
dinned with sharks
danced with otters
drank champagne with sea turtles
ate cake with sea horses
made a getaway through a tunnel of sparklers
kissed my husband goodnight for the first time
became a mrs.

So cliche, but it was truly the perfect day.  Surrounded by our family and friends helping to celebrate our love and dedication to each other.  It was wonderful, a day I will remember forever.....

A tradition started on our first anniversary, we like to spend our anniversary evening looking at our amazing wedding photos and reminisce while enjoying a glass of champagne.  But for now, I would like to share a few favorites with you.....

Happy anniversary Chris!  Thank you for saying "I do" and making all my dreams come true. {cute poet}
I love you more each and every day and I am so proud to be your wife.
I love you with all my heart.

Sorry for the abundance of pictures.
I just love every single one of our wedding photos and it's almost impossible to choose just a few.

island living

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

hello hello!  I'm back from a wonderfully longgggg weekend in Emerald Isle.
Its nice to get away sometimes....
My favorite little island is no longer sleepy, but awakened by the summer season.  Beach goers flock to Emerald Isle every year, wanting just a taste of what I grew up with.  Warm sand, seashells speckled along the beach, beautiful ocean waves that rhythmically pound the shore.   A quite coastal town where our greeting is a wave, even to strangers and being on the water isn't a luxury, but a way of life.  I'm a pretty lucky girl to have grown up here.

Watching my brother skim on the crystal blue waves is awesome.  He's pretty talented.

Andrew also took me on a kayak adventure.  My first in a long time, and one I will never forget.

He taught me to face the waves head on, and how to "back paddle".  He never got annoyed at my slower pace, and he even gave me the "better paddle".  Encouraging words, laughing at silly jokes and splashing me with water is how my brother rolls.  He was a good teacher, navigator, and friend.  Gosh, I love that kid.

And a visit to Emerald Isle isn't complete without a trip to the Aquarium.  I haven't been since my wedding there 3 years ago.  It was so {so} fun going back to see where we danced {in front of the otter tank} had dinner{near a tank full of bull sharks and red drum} and cut the cake {with seahorses and hammerheads}.  It was the perfect place to have a reception and the perfect thing to do on a cloudy Monday morning.

My extra long weekend at the beach was also filled with the normal but wonderful rituals; of hot dog eating, marshmallow roasting, porch sitting, and as always a bit too much sun.

But now I better go unpack, give the dog a bath, and brush off the last bits of sand from my feet.....

Enjoy your Tuesday
