That water, that sky; refreshing & crisp, just like the cool breezes September has brought with her.  These are surely the kind of blues that can stick around for as long as they want.

 How I haven't realized September's beauty until now, is completely beyond me.

Another Sunday on the water, my cowboy, venturing farther out in the bay every time.  Fishing for him, reading for me & then lunch, bloody's and football.  Not a bad way to end the weekend.

And repeat.

Is there anything better than the farmer's market in September? On a Saturday afternoon, where the weather is just seasonal enough to strut around in jeans & cowboy boots.  We loaded up on gourds & petite white pumpkins, but kicking myself for not adding those beautiful green tomatoes & "bone suckin' sauce" to my basket.  Oh, and buffalo burgers.

I must say, I am irrevocably in love; in love with September & Fall.

Anyone else feeling this as well?

Oh you know, just a photo shoot on the boat, out in the bay...totally normal.

I'm crazy about this sweater.  Perfect for these cool September mornings and evening sunsets on the water.  Cut-off shorts, flip-flops, and RayBan's have been my go-to boat attire this summer, I'm all about ease & comfort. 

But transitioning my "boat look" into Fall will be fun.  On the lookout for the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans & [of course] a great pair of Sperry's.  And searching [always] for another comfy sweater [or two] for Fall.  I found this one at Esme, a local boutique here in Virginia Beach. 

A fun evening on the water with my guy, our boat, and that sunset.  September, if I could give you a great big bear hug & a kiss on the cheek I would.  You are turning out to be pretty great so far.

Fresh cut fruit salad
Can you even call it a recipe if it is just fresh fruit cut up & mixed altogether in a giant bowl?!  A lazy girls fruit salad, if you will -- has been my go-to "recipe" for fruit salads this summer.

All the best seasonal Summer fruits as well as my two favorite staples: a golden delicious apple & a banana, mixed together to make a crisp & simple Summer salad.

Caprese Salad
Another staple in our fridge this summer has been caprese salads.  Really, I'm just trying to use up the tomatoes & basil from our overly productive garden this year [I have even neglected my watering duties as of late, shocking I know].

No measurements in this "recipe" either: just slice up the tomatoes you have on hand, chop up as much basil as you prefer [we like a lot], add cubes of fresh mozzarella, and dress with balsamic vinegar, Extra Virgin olive oil, sea salt, & fresh ground black pepper.  Fresh, light, and delicious-- oh and super easy.

Thai Coconut Chicken soup
Craving Thai coconut chicken soup, always.  It is seriously the best thing in the world.  So I tried this recipe and thought it was a great success.  I added more coconut milk and [the entire jar] of red curry paste, oh and of course topped it off with a little sriracha [always], but keeping mostly to the recipe it was super easy and quite delicious.  Chris' suggestions for next time were: "less vegetables, more meat, & more broth", such a man....

Cucumber lemon "Infused" water
A craving of my husbands lately has been this cucumber-lemon infused water.  I say "infused" but really, thats just fancy for, "sliced lemons & cucumbers thrown together in a pitcher of ice water", very sophisticated indeed.  But if it makes my husband happy, and I get to use my favorite pitcher & offer guests infused water, then so be it.

With Summer fading away into Fall I'm sure my recipes will do the same.  More chili's, stews, and roasted things; I'm eager & happy for the flavor change.  Excited to warm up my kitchen with our overly hot oven and attempt to bake pumpkin into anything I can think of.  An exciting & mostly likely my favorite cooking season will be here before I know it.  Happiness indeed.

But first, are there any Summer recipes I need to try before the season is gone for certain?

you know you're "boat people" when...

.....You can stock coolers full of beer, snacks, waters and the like in a matter of minutes.  We've got this boat packing thing down to a science.  The only thing forgotten lately is the memory card for the camera [typical].

.....The men at the bait & tackle shop know you by name and the bartender at your favorite dock-up restaurant waves goodbye with a, "See ya'll next time!".

....The best compliment you've gotten lately is, "you really do look like a boat Princess!!" [cut off shorts, boat bikini, hair braided]

....Two boating days two weekends in a row?!  Attempting to make it a third?


Lots of "boat posts" & pictures this summer, but what can I say, its just what we're into.   This past weekend  was no different.  The only laboring we did was a little bit of boat cleaning and a lot of fishing.  Very labor-intensive actives indeed.

There were friends on the boat,  fun was had, wake boarding was done, and I only fell off the dock once [utterly embarrassing].  Another sunset and early morning fishing, both out in the bay and a driving lesson turned into a wheel take-over where I even docked her up all on my own!

Welcoming September accordingly with a pumpkin ale out in the bay and bundling up in a cozy, over-sized sweater once the sun set, were wonderfully sweet signs that the season I love so, so much is almost upon us.

pancakes...a love story

I don't know about you but I can't eat banana pancakes with out singing Jack Johnson....

One of our favorite weekend rituals is to have a big Sunday morning breakfast; and I would be lying if I said I haven't made these pancakes for the past couple weekends in a row.  Topped with bananas, whipped cream, and a pinch of cinnamon is my favorite, while Chris prefers his topped with strawberries; but honestly, topped with anything or nothing at all and I will still devour the entire stack.

To fuel my [obsessive] craving for pancakes I've had as of late, I bought a healthy, whole wheat-organic pancake mix at Whole Foods.  The pancakes are deliciously filling, healthy, and a great way to fuel up for a long run.

Other than banana topped, we have tried them topped with: pecans & maple syrup, a berry mixture [black, straw, & blue] and when I just can't hold out anymore I will give in and top them with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips & walnuts! le sigh.

Hoping to experiment and add a little pumpkin puree to the mix during the cooler months to collide my latest obsession [pancakes] with my true passion [Fall].

I find it funny, I was never one for pancakes before I started running, but now I just can't seem to get enough; of the pancakes and the running.
