memorial day

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

"if there's a giant inflated duck in your city you must go" adventure, happened on monday.   obligatory duck pictures, along with the funny realization we were some of the only people there without kids -- grown up children, that's just what we are.

from there we cruised around on the motorcycle -- Virginia Beach to Norfolk to Hampton and back again -- tunnels and beaches, marina's and old neighborhoods, we passed by the zoo and stopped at the ocean view pier for a "happy memorial day beer" on the way home.  thinking all the way, this city is a pretty great place to live.

lunch on a sleepy street in Hampton chatting about summer plans & thankfulness -- for each other, our lives, our blessings, and ultimately our freedom-- cause isn't that what memorial day is all about anyway.

I sure hope you had a wonderfully long & relaxing but adventurous memorial day weekend.

its almost summer! cheers!

beach hair = summertime!

sandy beach towels in the washer, watered down coolers still half full, sun burned noses, and that exhausted but rested feeling that only long weekend of summer can give....

she's here -- unofficially, but I get the feeling that everyone is pretty excited about it...

Alright Summer, let's dance.

peanut butter oatmeal dog cookies

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Also called-- whatever is in your pantry that seems dog edible.

Another quirk of mine, I sometimes get strange amounts of energy late in the evening, I don't know where it comes from but I'm either up and about: blogging, cleaning, annoying Chris... or on the couch drooling by 8 o'clock.  There's just no middle ground for me.

So on a particular Thursday evening when I was filled to capacity with said crazy energy [also patiently awaiting my husband to arrive home from a late night flight] I decided it was the perfect time to make homemade dog treats!  Yeah I know, weird.

I found this super easy recipe and just adapted it to what I had in my pantry.  No whole wheat flour but I had whole wheat pancake mix, kinda the same thing right?  All the other ingredients[coconut oil, milk, peanut butter] I had on hand but added in a few handfuls of oats, just because! & Lucy didn't seem to mind.

I don't have a cute bone shaped cookie cutter, but am on the hunt for one! so for now Lucy was fine with the traditional peanut butter criss-cross shaped cookies.  Baked in a 350 degree oven for 10 min or so & you have yourself a peanut buttery smelling kitchen & homemade dog cookies!

And just in case you were worried, she loved them. duh.

Oh & we call dog treats "cookies" in our house, but feel free to adapt to your own personal style.

working on.

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

The last quote is my favorite & the one at times I need the most help with.  I have it written in my kitchen, which seems to be the best place for me especially when I'm running around like a crazy person [over]planning a party or dinner or life.  Really, I can over-plan anything.

These few quotes are surely my favorites as of late.  I always seem to have a few floating around up there helping me remember who & how I want to be to other people.  Popping up in my mind when I most need them-- or after, and then remembering to act differently the next time -- a different time, same situation but I will gracefully concur it with these words floating around in my head.

Silly and sometimes a little cliche, I just can't help love quotes & elegantly powerful words.  There's beauty in words-- they can speak so softly and yet be so powerful; words can change an outlook, bring about hope & courage, and resonate within someones soul -- those are the kinds of words I love.

Working on-- well lots of things about myself; a constant journey to be a good friend, wife, sister, daughter, nanny, dog mom, .....  Sometimes hard, other times not so, but for me remembering some of my most loved quotes, thinking on them & repeating them over and over in my head -- well, it helps.

Any great words or quotes floating around in your head as of late?   I would love to hear.

lately-- just me and the corgi

Thursday, May 15, 2014

when your husband is out of town a lot lately you :

get to load up your grocery basket with all the things you like! & eat as weird of a dinner as you want!  i.e.: peppers&hummus, a sweet potato, and grapes!  or an entire container of granola, whichever.  So basically I'm a vegetarian when I don't have someone to cook for.

talk to your dog, a lot.

watch as much sports as you want!!! NHL - NBA - NFL Draft! -  oh! and the world cup is on its wayyy!  Who's excited?!

make a few too many clothes purchases online. oops.  oh, But the sales!!! Go here & here! freeshippingand30percentoff! duh.

Do yoga in the middle of the living room at 9:30 at night.  And leave said yoga mat sprawled out all week long.

finish a book in one weekend & start on another!  -- Any must read! book suggestions for those hazy beach/boat days coming up?

run your little heart out.  Lots of really good long-runs and shorter runs lately, which is making me super excited for my first half-marathon later this year.  Feeling pretty confident with the distance{13.1}, I just want to keep increasing my weekly mileage (hovering around 18 miles lately) and decrease my time.

work on those tan lines!  I could lay in the sun  I just love it.  But don't worry {mom} I bought sunscreen.

Go to bed anytime you want! i.e.: 8:30 on a Tuesday & a Wednesday, no shame.
We definitely miss him, but in a healthy way.  I like my simple little life, and the fact that it keeps on rolling when its just me and the corgi, well I like that even more.  But please please don't get me wrong, having someone whom you love and makes you laugh! to share all this with, well that is really the best part.

And I can't take the boat out on my own, so I definitely need him for that ;)

on my table

& in my kitchen

roses -- hot pink, peach, or any color really; when cut fresh from your garden & placed in a mason jar, well I don't think it gets any better than that.  The roses are blooming & the azaleas have faded -- summer is coming, the flowers and my heart can feel it.

backyard || part 2

Thursday, May 8, 2014

In our backyard, a revamped herb garden this year --new to the mix: lavender, dill, & parsley -- am I the only one who gets silly excited by walking out to the garden and picking fresh herbs to flavor up dinner?!  It makes me happy; another one of the countless things I love about our backyard.

Something I don't love- poison ivy.  Oh the joys of yard work.
