weekend. {the one before Christmas}

a too short but always sweet trip to our island home to celebrate the holiday with friends & family.  relaxation comes easy here & so does eating too many sweet treats-- but 'tis the season I guess. scotties on the presents and in chairs, naps by the fire, and my brother's gourmet grilled cheeses on Christmas plates.  morning mugs of coffee & afternoon pots of tea-- but the precious time and conversations with mom are my favorite, renews my soul every time.  present exchanges & stockings to open -- my girlfriends rock & presents that make me cry are always the best.  and no holiday is complete without awkward family photos and last minute shopping.  and before we left a crab pot Christmas tree was stuffed into our sleigh and brought back to VA with us, posing was a must.

keeping our new tradition of being in Virginia Beach for Christmas is incredibly bittersweet.  I miss my wonderful family and their traditions, but celebrating with my little family, in my home, in our city, is very special too.  Just another part of growing up I suppose.

but feeling so blessed to live close enough to our families for weekend visits -- more of those next year, definitely.

three more sleeps until Christmas-- magic is in the air -- can you feel it?
