long weekend in Texas

Friday, April 8, 2016

we took an overdue trip to Texas last week to visit family and we had the best time.  We explored and adventured a bit, but relaxing by the lake and spending time with family filled up my heart so, making me wish the distance wasn't so far.

we missed the rodeo by only a week but enjoyed the Texas wildflowers which were in full bloom.  we explored hidden gems like the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary and got a bit of Texas history in Huntsville. we adventured all afternoon in Houston, the museum of Natural Science and dinner at Uchi, with sake and wine and sushi-- the Houston food scene is one of the coolest I've experienced.

boots were bought, a Texas tradition-- cayman and ostrich skins to add to our growing collection.  Margaritas with family and tex mex food with basketball games to cheer for -- only miles away from where the action was taking place.

what we did and places we went were wonderful, but just being with family we love and don't see often enough was so good for both of us.  on one evening, just sitting with his grandma hearing stories about her life, how she fell in love with his grandpa, the life they made and enjoyed to the fullest together, hearing her memories brought tears to my eyes and made me oh so grateful to be present in that moment.

not long enough trips make for great promises! to return to Texas and family soon!
