to celebrate his 30th -- ocracoke

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

last weekend on a spontaneous whim we planned a quick getaway to celebrate my adventurous husband and his thirty years of life!  an all the way drive down Highway 12 and a ferry to the shores of Ocracoke, we camped and fished and had the beach entirely to ourselves.  we enjoyed cold beer and fresh shrimp at Howard's Pub because when on ocracoke, and a delicious breakfast at Dajio's, on our "next time list" for their bloody mary's alone and to try their shrimp hour!?

I must admit, I didn't want to leave, a short day on this little island is never ever enough-- but this was a trip for fishing and him and he promised to bring me back, in the fall.   so we ventured on-- boarded a ferry and drove back up the coast we love so much.

to remember:
+ that oh so touristy feeling, and yet this is our home
+ hiking the dunes to the ocean, us three, Lucy leading the way
+ tent setting up and cheersing with matching YETI's -- yes I know, we've become those people
+ ferry rides, windows down, windblown and happy
+ outside showers in the sweet august heat
+ the growing list of places to visit when we return-- ocracoke coffee co., Dajio's, Deepwater Pottery, Mermaid's folly, Jolly Roger Pub, and the Sweet Tooth to name a few
+ star gazing in the sand and sunset catching nights
+ chasing ghost crabs and pterodactyl mosquitos
+ his smile and constant "birthday" mood! I love it so
