most opinions i have heard about the month of january are that people tend to loathe it; the days are long, almost feeling as though half the year resides in them. winter is hard sometimes.  and while most of the time i whole heartedly agree with this sentiment,  january for us has truly passed by in a blink.  well ok, maybe two blinks.

i can divide the month in between two distinct chapters, the first titled --"waiting for puppy" and the next -- "we have a new puppy!? " alternate titles could be, "we've lost our minds, we have two corgis", or " we have the cutest puppy ever!" but more likely "Oh wow, i forgot puppies did this- a memoir."

yes, we got another Corgi.  we truly love them so, our Lucy girl has stolen our hearts completely; and so my husband being the generous, dog loving man he is, surprised me with a puppy for Christmas.  the lack of blog posts this january can directly relate to puppy snuggling and adjusting to a new dog routine, but don't you worry i have made up for it in adorable puppy photos.
evidence below.

january

a few january things --
+ the first big snow on the first new days of the year.  wow was it a sight to see, 11 inches and blistery tempetures made for a frozen winter wonderland.  -- we balanced our snow days with the right amount of hibernation and fun, as we tend to do.
+ snowy scenes and slippered feet, photos shared between family, even states apart
+ the cleaning out, dusting off, and putting away tasks of january will forever make my heart do flips
+ eucalyptus on the table with candles softly aglow all the while granola baking in the oven, a winter morning of my dreams
+ cherished moments with my Lucy girl, before she became a big sister -- i savored her and even shed a few tears, she will always be my first corgi, my angel dog.
+ all the homemade soups this january, because winter : asain chicken noodle - hearty minestrone - thai coconut chicken- venison stew- the best game day chili - almost perfect homemade ramen
+ running miles and training for spring races to come -- 106 january miles ran.
+ my love for Trader Joes is nothing short of an obsession -- thinking a post on my favorite TJ's things is in order
+ a downright cold morning run on the boardwalk; it was hard and windy but rewarding.  a resolution of sorts, to not put off until "tomorrow" -- treated myself to my favorite breakfast as a reward!
+ a brunch date here and there, margaritas and chips after doctors visits, a glass of wine paired with an epic cheese tray at home, picking up our puppy & petstore shopping to follow, pizza and movies on the couch all the live long day -- january dates.
+ booking our annual trip to Texas and turning the Rodeo into a tradition -- Houston here we come!
+ our little Oliver.  a new puppy for us, a baby brother for Lucy -- we are completely smitten and she loves him more and more each day.  they have become quite the pair already. his puppy ways and perky personality are exciting and certainly keeping us busy, but i'm enjoying it so -- prepping for parenthood, we keep telling ourselves.
+ cozying together on the couch with two dogs in between -- reveling in the joy of the moment, ever thankful for this little life.

another note I want to remember about our January -- committing hard to twenty eighteen and finding the perfect place and doctor to help us in our parenthood journey.  we are headed into February filled with hope and answers, and thats really all i've been wanting, for years.

  1. I really like your posts Katie...somehow your posts are hopeful and bright in a world that sometimes seems less so. When I read them it feels like the world is in better hands than I sometimes fear it is. I know your life is not perfect as none really are but you have an eye for the good and beautiful and a spirit of gladness. I love it.
